Overview

Blackhawk Technical College is seeking a part-time instructor in the Dental Hygienist program. Candidates must have a background in and current knowledge of dental hygiene, the specific subjects they are teaching, and educational theory and methodology consistent with teaching assignment (e.g., curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement, and evaluation). This position will provide laboratory instruction on Mondays to dental assistant and dental hygienist students in the Dental Hygiene Process course.

Responsibilities

  1. Facilitation of Learning. Plan, prepare and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students. Assess the learning outcomes of students at the unit, course, and program level.
  2. Classroom Management. Fulfill assigned schedule; maintain accurate student attendance and grade records; maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, compliance with accreditation standards, and equipment security; and ensure opportunities for student evaluation.
  3. Interpersonal/Team Skills. Participate in activities of the instructional team, including planning, development, scheduling, and budgeting as a cooperative and professional team player.
  4. Student Support and Guidance. Support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals.
  5. Meet Wisconsin Technical College System requirements through the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
  6. Curriculum Development. Develop, revise, and continually update curriculum and instructional materials which are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on level of required documentation.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene or Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene and a bachelor’s degree in related field such as Allied Health, Natural Science, Education, Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy or Health Administration.
  2. Graduate of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited dental hygiene program.
  3. State of Wisconsin licensed Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) or eligible to obtain before hire.
  4. Minimum of two (2) years of full-time (minimum of 4,000 hours) post-licensure work experience in dental hygiene.
  5. Certified in local anesthetic and eligible to obtain certification in nitrous oxide.
