Overview

Position is responsible for the instruction of Medical Terminology course work. 

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for instruction on the component parts of medical terms: prefixes, suffixes, and word roots.
  2. Responsible for instruction on operative, diagnostic, therapeutic, and symptomatic terminology of all body systems, as well as systemic and surgical terminology.
  3. Develop and plan appropriate instructional strategies including but not limited to MyEd Choice, face-to-face, and online course delivery.
  4. Participate in in-service meetings, staff development training or other activities or programs requested by the division.
  5. Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters.
  6. Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, evaluating student performance and maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc.
  7. Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
  8. Demonstrate a commitment to the college’s mission, vision and values.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Excellent communication and strong problem solving skills.
  2. Ability to interact with diverse populations.
  3. Skill in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods.

 

Education Requirements:

  1. Associate degree in a health-related field that leads to employment in a patient care facility such as a hospital or clinic.

OR

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Nursing, Health Sciences, Animal Science, or related field.

OR

  1. Employment in a patient care facility such as a hospital or clinic combined with education, training, and tested experience preparing a person for the occupation totalling 7 years or 14,000 hours.

 

Ocupational Requirements:

  1. 2 years or 4,000 hours in a target job for the course or courses being taught, of which at least 1 year (2,000 hours) shall be within 5 years prior to the date of appointment.
  2. 1 year (2,000 hours) of related occupational experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within 5 years prior to the date of appointment.
  3. 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience means 8 semesters of part-time teaching or 4 semesters of full-time teaching at an accredited post-secondary degree granting institution.
