Overview

The Manufacturing, Apprenticeship, Transportation & Technology (MATT) Division is seeking a part-time (adjunct) instructor to teach a 3-credit course that supports the technical diploma programs in Electric Power Distribution (EPD) and Diesel & Heavy Truck Technician. This position teaches CDL-related content for non-driving occupations—students will not receive a CDL license as part of this course and will not engage in over-the-road (OTR) driving. All instruction is provided on the Beloit-Janesville Campus.

We are seeking an instructor to deliver engaging, hands-on & online instruction that prepares students for technical careers where knowledge of CDL vehicle operation is required. Responsibilities will include classroom, online, and lab instruction in topics such as vehicle safety, systems operation, and vehicle inspection procedures.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in operating Class A and Class B commercial vehicles, as well as the ability to teach foundational knowledge and workplace expectations aligned with CDL standards.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide face-to-face instruction for the currently scheduled Fall semester class section on Fridays, 08/18/25-12/12/25, from 08:00 am-02:00 pm, on the Beloit-Janesville Campus. The course will also be offered in Spring 2026 semester; schedule TBD.
  2. Remain current with industry standards to ensure course learning outcomes meet workplace expectations for commercial driving.
  3. Engage in ongoing assessment of student learning in the class to determine effectiveness of instruction and curriculum.
  4. Create an inclusive classroom/lab environment that is respectful of diversity.
  5. Prepare and update course syllabus using BTC guidelines for each course section taught.
  6. Maintain accurate student records and report grades as required by the College.
  7. Collaborate with the MATT faculty and Student Success Center staff to help students engage and succeed in the College learning environment.
  8. Refer students needing advising, financial or social assistance to appropriate Student Services staff.
  9. Ensure compliance with College administrative policies and operational regulations. Report violations of the Student Code of Conduct to the Conduct Officer.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Ability to drive the Class A and Class B trucks used in the EPD and Diesel diploma programs.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of CDL driving practices as outlined by the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration, and ability to remain current on industry trends.
  3. Ability to plan, organize, and facilitate quality training.
  4. Ability to work effectively with students in both one-on-one and group instruction situations.
  5. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to work independently with limited guidance and daily directions.
  7. Ability to work portions of the day outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  8. Basic knowledge of and skills with computers and software programs for communication and learning management, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and the Blackboard LMS.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma/GED/HSED, or equivalent
  2. A minimum of three years (6,000 hours) of occupational experience in truck driving
    1. Note: At least 1 year of occupational work experience (2,000 hours) must be within 5 years prior to the date of appointment (this can be waived if the instructor has at least 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience in the field within the previous 5 years)
  3. Valid CDL Class A Commerical Driver’s License with an Air brake endorsement
  4. Employment offer and continued employment is contingent upon negative DOT drug test(s) and acceptable driving record.
