Overview

Position provides instruction for Blackhawk Technical College’s Electrical Apprentice program. Duties include teaching course work within the Electrician Apprenticeship program, ensuring courses that meet the skills needed for the apprenticed occupations for which students are preparing. 

 

This position will be open until filled, with a first review date of March 17, 2025. After this date, the recruitment may close without further notice. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Provide instruction for Electrical Apprenticeship courses as assigned.
  2. Engage in ongoing student learning assessment in the Electrical Apprenticeship Program to determine the effectiveness of instruction and curriculum.  Use data to measure program outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence.
  3. Deliver Electrical Training Alliance curriculum in alignment with the Construction and Maintenance Technology areas, with specialization in residential, commercial and industrial settings.
  4. Advise Electrical apprentice students concerning their growth, improvement and success in the program.
  5. Remain current on best practices in the teaching field so that instruction is delivered for a variety of learning styles, uses the latest supportive technology, and utilizes alternative delivery methods. Develop curricula, assessments and lab projects utilizing the program’s flexible teaching modalities including on-line, lab-based and project driven learning.
  6. Manage classrooms and oversee the lab to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. Responsible for lab inventory, ordering of supplies, tools and equipment, and the maintenance of required equipment.
  7. Maintain accurate student records and reports as requested by administrative offices.
  8. Identify students needing assistance and refer students to Student Services. Collaborate with Student Services and the Learning Resources staff members to help students adjust to the learning environment.
  9. Prepare and update course syllabi (using BTC guidelines) for each course taught and work cooperatively with members of other departments and programs in coordinating courses.
  10. Meet weekly office hours and other duties required to meet student, employer, and college needs.
  11. Create a classroom environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism.
  12. Attend Advisory Committee and departmental meetings.
  13. Participate in staff development activities and serve on college improvement teams and college wide committees as appropriate.
  14. Assist faculty chair and dean in other duties as assigned.
  15. Meet Wisconsin Technical College System professional development requirements through the Faculty Quality Assurance System.

Qualifications

  1. Associate degree in related field OR currently hold a State Journeyman Electrician or Master’s Electrician License.
  2. A minimum of two years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience in a target job for the program(s) being taught, of which at least one year (2,000 hours) shall be within five years prior to the date of appointment. One year (2,000 hours) of related occupational experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five years prior to the date of appointment (two years of post-secondary teaching experience means eight semesters of part-time teaching or four semesters of full-time teaching at an accredited institution).

 

Desired Qualifications:

  1. OSHA 30 (construction) and Arc Flash certification.
  2. Previous post-secondary teaching experience.

 

Blackhawk Technical College does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
